Hounds
Hounds were dogs bred to assist humans hunt game.
Hounds are described as either sighthounds, which hunt by sight, or scenthounds, which hunt by scent.
Sighthounds include: Greyhounds, Afgan Hounds, Basenji, amd Deerhound.
Scenthounds include: Bloodhounds, beagles, and Basset Hounds. Dachshunds are a scenthound with terrier-like digging attributes.
Hounds that possess both sighthound and scenthound characteristics include the Rhodesian Ridgeback, Thai Ridgeback, and Norwegian Elkhound.
Balanced Obedience has two Norwegian Elkhounds in the pack. I love this breed. They are friendly, smart, brave, clean, and require little grooming. This breed could date back over 6000 years and has been used to hunt Moose giving it Hound status though it has also been used for herding and protecting. The Norwegian Elkhound is probably foundation stock for Spitz breeds.
This is Jazmine who is a great all-around dog. Jazmine helps me socialize dogs and help dog owners understand proper dog communication. Jazmine has been shown in conformation and obedience.
The Beagle is a talented scenthound used in detecting contraband.
Daschunds (or dachshunds) are adored by many for their charms and are the only breed to hunt above and below ground.

A Norwegian Elkhound enjoying the snow. Even though there is no snow on Oahu, my Elkhounds do fine in the warm weather and have great skin and coats.
Coconut, the Beagle puppy, learned obedience with in-home training by Balanced Obedience.
