If the breed you are interested is not listed above, I can still help you decide if it is a good breed for you.
In my experience, most mixed breeds in Hawaii have pit bull in them. Pit bulls are very common in Hawaii.
Dog Breeds are arranged by group. The grouping says a lot about the general characteristics of the breed. The groups are:
Sporting
Herding
Hound
Working
Terrier
Toy
Non-Sporting
If you want a dog that is a great jogging partner, it is better not to have a toy or northern working breed.
A great way to learn more about breeds is to attend a local AKC dog show and speak with the owners.
Local breeders are listed in the Ilio magazine found at most pet stores and veterinarian offices.

Makka, the German Shepherd, is part of the pack at Balanced Obedience.
Here are two lovely mixed breeds that are typical in Hawaii. Terrier and hound mixes are commonly used for pig hunting; which is common in Hawaii.
Here is a chocolate Labradoodle, named Puna, that we enjoy very much. She is smart and lively. This small mixed breed has a typical look of many of the mixed breeds found on Oahu and are probably a mix of Chihuahua and terrier. Early Hawaiians brought dogs with them to Hawaii. These small dogs were called poi dogs. True poi dogs probably do not exist on the main Hawaiian Islands, but I see mixes that may have poi dog in them.
Another typical mixed breed found on Oahu. Hound and Pit Bull Terrier mixes were developed for pig hunting.

I enjoy the pride people take in owning a purebred and recognize the history and value in dog breeds.
However, I feel that Labradoodles and Goldendoodles are some of the best dogs there are, especially in Hawaii where a low-shedding, low-liability, water-loving, family-friendly dog is desirable.
Happy Goldendoodle in training.

Rusty the Labradoodle puppy.
Here is the testimonial from Rusty's owners.
"Dear Sabrina and Danny, we want to thank you for training our beautiful labradoodle puppy Rusty in your puppy camp. He has a great personality and is a very loving dog, but the gift you gave us was the language we now have to communicate with him. And you taught us how to understand his communication with us. We are a happy family and Rusty makes it even happier. From the bottom of our hearts thank you for your help.
Nev, Kiril and Rusty"
